'...sounds like the bastard son of Tom Waits and Howlin' Wolf…' Rob Clarke, Arch1 Blues. Singer, guitarist and harmonica player, Mike 'Dr Blue' Mckeon presents songs from his latest album. The songs can be previewed on his website at www.mikedrblue.com, and are available to download on itunes. In Mike's words…. 'The musical themes will be familiar to blues fans; soul searching, lost love, distant trains, dusty roads and alcohol! Most of the album was drafted in India during a trip to visit family and to work at an orphanage in Kashmir. The already tense local political situation deteriorated almost as soon as we arrived, resulting in the imposition of curfews that kept us indoors a lot of the time. So, 'Heaven Bound' came to be written during those long summer days punctuated by the sounds of rioting, gunfire and birdsong. It has been a labour of love, bringing together the songs I wrote that summer and some earlier favourites written a few years ago. It was engineered and co- produced by Paul Booth, whose musical talents I have come to know and respect from working with him on several other projects. During one of our many post-gig, late night discussions about music, we talked about a collaboration, and his studio, Fat Chance Studio C, ended up being the natural place to produce the album. Heaven Bound arrives in Adelaide fresh from a UK tour including the Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals 2011. 'If it ain't the truth it aint the blues'.
