Bottleneck was formed in 2011 by double bassist David Phillips. David, a full time bassist with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra brought together three longtime friends and colleagues of the Adelaide jazz scene who all share a mutual love of the jazz recordings from the Blue Note era with the aim to create music that followed this tradition but with a contemporary feel. The musicians in the band have a wealth of professional experience between them they have performed with Branford Marsalis, James Morrison, Rick Ford, Don Raider, Jon Gordon, Cindy Blackman, James Muller, and Kate Cebrano, and have performed in New York, Canada, China, South Korea and Papua New Guinea. Their debut CD Diversions has been featured on ABC Jazz Track and Classic Drive.
