Empire presents Drop 5th Birthday with special guest Guy J (Bedrock)

Cover Charge: $15 all night
Members: $10

5 years in any industry is a long time, but DROP has successfully lived to the ripe old age of FIVE through a simple formula of good music and good people. So we are now inviting friends and fans new and old to come and celebrate in true DROP style on Friday August 8. The Long Island’s will be flowing and the dance floor heaving when Israel’s latest wunder-kid GUY J drop’s in to deliver a signature epic set in the hallowed Moonbar.

Guy J’s broad musical style has been recognized by diverse high profile labels from the classic sounds of Bedrock, Azuli and Renaissance, to more techno beats of label like Maunal Music, and the diverse sound of Tiga’s Turbo Records. Other labels that recognized Guy’s talent this year are Electribe, Audio Therapy, Whoop Records, Dogtown just to name a few. Supported among others by Digweed, Tiga, Sasha, Hernan Catteno. These days Guy is touring and working on his live show and album which is about to premier on Bedrock Records.

Drop has been tirelessly delivering quality music to the masses for nearly five years now, having hosted events not only in their hometown of Brisbane, but also in Cairns, Townsville and the Gold Coast.

Drop parties are always focussed on the music – music that is underground yet accessible, deep and dark yet still has the funk. Their style is always dancefloor orientated but also caters to the mind – music that makes you think and feel.

Drop has hosted dance music legends such as Danny Howells, Michael Mayer, Steve Bug, Nathan Fake, Funk Da Void, Stephan Bodzin, Supermayer, 16 Bit Lolitas, Habersham, Numinous, Steve Gerrard, Tarrantella & Redanka, Rowan Blades/Breeder, Kriece, Basek, Nu-Breed, Deetron, Dj Misjah, Sabine Christ, Phil Smart, Gab Olivier, Jimi Polar, Rollin Connection, Virginia Le, Dan Marshall, Jono Fernandez, Sveta, Mark Murphy, Mark Briais & Murray Antill aka Stormboy.

DROP’s resident dj’s Magoo and Scott Walker have regulary played QLD’s major festivals such as Big Day Out, 2 Tribes, Future Music Festival, Earthcore, We Love Sounds, Gatecrasher, Gods Kitchen and Summerfielddayze as well as every major night club around town, and even a few interstate jaunts to Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. After 5 years, the boys are on fire at the moment delivering a range of sounds from deep tech house thru to rollin minimal and occasionally if its called for – peak time techno.

Joining the festivities on the night will be Brisbane favourite and very special guest – Cosmo Cater

Mild-mannered solicitor by day, dancefloor smashing DJ by night – Cosmo Cater is currently living the sort of double-life which almost deserves its own comic book. Respected by punters and chin-strokers alike for his delivery of upfront sounds across the genre spectrum, you can set your watch by Cosmo’s party-rocking reliability. Just ask Infusion, Chris Fortier, Jody Wisternoff, Ils and Steve Lawler, who’ve all taken the stage after Cosmo in Brisbane over the past four years.

Cosmo’s superb set-crafting abilities have established him as the warm-up DJ of choice for superclub Family whenever progressive house superstars roll through Brisbane – Sasha, John Digweed and Dave Seaman just three of the names to receive Cosmo’s patented warm-up treatment. In fact his set in support of Diggers in 2005 was so warmly received no one was really sure if the rapturous applause as it climaxed was for Diggers stepping up to the decks or Cosmo’s own performance.

Crafting slow-building warm-ups isn’t the only weapon in the Cosmo Cater arsenal, with his much-vaunted diversity seeing him hold down residencies at Brisbane’s newest hotspot Jade Buddha and Sunday session The Sunday Roast. He has also become a fixture of the festival circuit, with slots at the 2005 Big Day Out Boiler Room, Summafieldayze 2005/2006, Earthcore 2005/2006, BBQ Breaks 2006 and Two Tribes 2006 confirming his status as one of Queensland’s finest.

As any good party knows, it wouldn’t be what it is without the amazing people that attend the gigs every month so a massive thanks EVERYONE for all of your support and memories over the last five years – keep it up for another five!
