The Griffith Trio brings together three highly experienced chamber musicians from the Conservatorium staff Michele Walsh (violin), Markus Stocker (cello) and Stephen Emmerson (piano). The Trio was officially formed late in 1997 as the institutions ensemble in residence and has performed widely around Australia, Asia and the Pacific. It has established an enviable reputation for its performances, radio broadcasts and recordings which have been consistently well received and acclaimed for their expression, vitality and unity of purpose. In 2001, they were awarded the Perform/4MBS Award for Music Production, voted by Brisbane audiences as giving the best performance of the year, recognition which attests to their growing reputation and popularity.

The foundations of the groups repertoire lie in the Eastern Classical tradition, though it has also commissioned works from several leading Australian composers including Andrew Schultz and Gerard Brophy. The Trio has released six CD recordings which include works by Brahms, Shostakovich, Dvo&345;k, Schubert, Kreisler and highlights from their 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 concert seasons.
