‘A must-see production…’ Marcus Bower - The Examiner 17 April, 2008

‘Donna Cameron’s performance is gripping…’ Ben Eltham - Courier Mail 7 May, 2004

‘The Flowering is a play that almost defies description as it breaks genre in its exploration of expression.’ Leah Huxley - Scene Magazine 11 May, 2004.

‘Every character on stage comes alive solely through Cameron’s masterly solo performance.’ Mary Nemeth - Time Off Magazine May 2004.

Unfolding within a magnificent porcelain set, Donna Cameron’s critically acclaimed solo work is one woman’s riveting account of what happened the year she vanished.

When 18-year-old Chloe disappears from home, her mother is convinced she is dead. Although she returns the following Spring, Chloe will not tell her mother what happened or where she has been. Many Springs later, Chloe is compelled to reveal what happened, and in so doing the mysteries of the past are finally pieced together.

Directed by Sue Rider, The Flowering is an edge-of-your-seat dark tale mixed with delightful black humour in which Donna Cameron plays all five characters including two men. The performance becomes even more intriguing as each character interacts with the landscape of intricate porcelain shapes created by award-winning ceramic artist Julie Shepherd.

Acclaimed playwright and actor Donna Cameron is a graduate of the NIDA playwright’s Studio, recipient of an AWG/QTC Playwrighting Mentorship and winner of the 2002 Glen Eira Literary Awards. Conceived and created in Brisbane, The Flowering is a multi-layered, rich-text based performance weaving myth and universal themes of the mother-child bond and first love.

Back by popular demand, The Flowering debuted at Metro Arts in 2004 and toured to Tasmania in 2008.
