La Boite presents an explosive online tale for our time with its brand new production of I Love You, Bro by Adam J A Cass, directed by David Berthold.

This is the true story of a boy who conspired to murder himself.

Based on extraordinary real events in Manchester in 2003, this stunning work delves into the mind of Johnny, a chat room junkie. A modern boy, remarkably clever and longing for connection, he spins a web of deceit that destroys two lives - all for the glory of love.

Johnny wants to be someone and online he can be anyone he wants. One night he poses online as a girl named Alba Jay and entices a gullible chat room virgin named MarkyMark into an explicit conversation. As Johnny’s infatuation with this football golden boy grows, he creates a string of fictitious characters - a serial killer, a female secret service agent and multiple family members of Alba Jay - all in the name of getting what he most desires.

Following the cult success of Hamlet with young audiences at La Boite earlier this year, David directs brilliant young talent Leon Cain, Sydney Theatre Award’s Best Newcomer, in this heart-stopping production.
