This collection depicts the power, strength and grace of the dancer focusing on the studio rehearsal preparations.

'The Danseur' oil paintings have been prepared in an impressionistic style. However, the restraints imposed by realism upon painting dancers are more than offset by the profound range of expression inherent in the human figure. This is a language that expresses qualities of experiences impossible to describe in other terms. Painting, like dance, music or sculpture, can give form to a range of feelings for which we have no words.

"The dancers' commitment and dedication to the perfection of their art cannot help but inspire the attempt to capture their exquisite grace, line and beauty in paint," says the artist, Robert Martin.

"It is a privilege to have spent time being inspired by them, and to experience their charming quiet moments and the dynamic energy displayed in their rehearsals and performances.

"I am very grateful to all those people who have cooperated and assisted in the preparation of this body of works, especially Artistic Managers, Francois Klaus, Robyn White and General Manager Judith Anderson from the Queensland Ballet Company."
