Whats that ringing? The culprit is Bakshis The Unanswered Call , a work featuring mobile phones, which, unlike the ones in real life, go unanswered; just one work in a program which showcases works for small ensembles and striking instrumental combinations. Ades has become a virtual standard bearer for contemporary music. His Living Toys takes Haydn as inspiration, resulting in a Toy Symphony for our own age. Howards Full Fathom Five , inspired by the Jackson Pollock painting of the same name, and Signature , a work which won the 2003 International Composers Rostrum Awards, complete this virtuosic program.
