Piccolo Cafe B Y O Restaurant, Ascot

"Never again or unless they change)"
The name is misleading - not value at all. Our dinner at Piccolo last week was probably the worst value for money, over priced and very ordinary food I have had since returning to Brisbane. Having dined out in many Brisbane restaurants recently I would not recommend this restaurant. The mains are overpiced at $36 and are not accompanied by anything of substance. Therefore you have to pay $10 for vegetables as well. For the same money I can eat in the best restaurant in Brisbane. We didn't even get offered bread. The Italian name is misleading. I will never eat here again as there are other restaurants in the Ascot and Hendra area of substancially better quality in terms of food and value. …

Pause Cafe, Ascot

"Staff are permanately on pause!!"
After my dining experience on Sunday 8th June i think its important every one should know how not focused on customer service the wait staff at this cafe are. On arrival you are greeted by a sign that says "full table Service". After walking right in through the cafe my friend and I were not greeted at all by any staff and helped ourselves to menus from another table. At the time of our arrival there were only four other covers in the cafe and three staff floating around the counter. The waiter approached the table and it seemed like he didnt really know what to say and finally asked us if we would like drinks. After taking our drink order he proceeded to head back to the counter and have a lengthy conversation with the coffee girl before deciding to get our simple order of two cokes. When our cokes were delivered i requested that the table be wiped down as there were still remnants of food from previous guests on it. The waiter agreed and then came back with cutlery. A quick glance around the restaurant told me that clean tables are definitely not something Pause aims to achieve as the majority of the tables surrounding us were also covered with food crumbs. With three staff at the counter catching up on their saturday night stories this is very disapointing. THe food presentation was very well done, and the food itself was lovely, and exactly what we were expecting. However on completion of meals (both with empty cokes) we looked around waiting patiently for our plates to be cleared so we could order coffee. After watching the two staff at the counter chat and ignore the rest of the cafe for close to ten minutes we decided we'd enjoy our coffees next door instead, where at least we could be assured service. ON paying our bill, which we had to go to the counter to do so, (strange how most other places with full table service bring the bill to you) the waiter who served us asked us how everything was. When i replied average he definitely didnt know how to deal with the situation, mumbling a sorry and then asking us if we were paying together. No attempt whatsoever to find out what the problem had been. WE were not presented with an itemised bill and had no way of checking what we were paying for. Already disgusted enough by the service, i didnt press the issue and promptly left. As an employee of a prominent Brisbane CBD hotel, i am often asked to recommend cafes and restaurants in and around brisbane. I can assure you that Pause is definitely not going on my highly recommended list. Pity, because the food was good. Do some customer service training! …

Lido Cafe/ Restaurant, Ascot

"Yummmm"
What a great and unique place! Never been anywhere like it .... The decor was warming, all the purple and orange, even as far as all the staff wearing it, it made it feel so cosy, especially on the wintery day that we were there. The staff were very attentive and did everything that they could to accomodate our requests. The food came out super fast and was devine - all of it. We had the homemade soup and nachos to start, just delicious. For main we tried the fajitas, which were very tasty. Desserts..... there was so much variety and they were all home made, all sounding mouth watering. The Lido is a place I will definitely visit again and will tell everyone about. I couldn't fault the whole experience. The menu is huge, which may sound daunting, but it's what makes it great, you can take anyone there, as there really is something for everyone. So much thought has gone in to it all. Take my advice, honestly .... GO! …
