‘ Matisse: Drawing Life ’ is a major exhibition of works on paper by Henri Matisse and includes more than 300 drawings, prints and illustrated books. Presented in partnership with the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF), this will be a definitive exhibition of works on paper by one of the twentieth century’s greatest artists. Exploring the themes and subjects to which Matisse repeatedly turned throughout his long career, the exhibition brings together works from many international collections to provide insights into the artist’s daily drawing practice. To complement the ‘ Matisse: Drawing Life’ exhibition, the Gallery of Modern Art’s Long Gallery will transform into a large-scale drawing studio inspired by the art of Matisse and his working environments. Complemented by contemporary French artist Christophe Cuzin’s site-specific architectural murals, a spectacular setting of changing displays, including still life arrangements and live performances will engage visitors in the creative activity of drawing.
