JUTE continues our passionate commitment to the development of professional theatre practitioners in this region through The Indie Season. The Indie Season project kicked off in 2008 and continued in 2009. This is a long-term commitment and in 2010, JUTE will again provide a regional independent theatre maker with the opportunity to produce their own work.

JUTE has no creative control over these productions but provides support with a financial investment of $5000 for the producer. JUTE Theatre’s Artistic Director, Operations/ Marketing Manager and the Production Manager all provide practical advice to the producer. JUTE also engages a professional designer to consult with the producer but takes no part in the creative decision-making. The Independent Producer retains the box office from the season.

The Independent producers are chosen through a competitive submission process. These submissions were assessed by a panel including the Artistic Director, the Associate Director and one independent assessor from the professional theatre sector.

POP Robot Theatre Group was the successful Indie applicant for 2010 and has chosen to produce 'Falling Petals' written by Ben Ellis.
