The Tilted Stage with a 'for as long as possible' Cartesian Corpse Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, 40 Macquarie Street, Hobart Detached artspace, 7 Campbell Street, Hobart Exhibition : 21 November 2008–1 March 2009 Performance: commencing 21 November In November 2008, Australia's most influential performance artist, Mike Parr, will exhibit selected works from the last thirty-seven years in an exhibition entitled The Tilted Stage. The exhibition will extend across two venues in Hobart - the Bond Store of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, and the Detached artspace in Campbell Street ( www.detached.com.au ). For the first time in over 180 years all four floors of the 1826 Bond Store will be made accessible to the general public. The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG), together with Detached, will exhibit various important works by Mike Parr, with a 'for as long as possible' performance by the artist on the top floor of the Bond Store commencing on the evening of Friday 21st November. Artworks have been made available by the Art Gallery of New South Wales and private collections. Detached, situated within walking distance of TMAG, has invited Mike Parr and curator Tony Bond to stage this major exhibition – which is the inaugural event for this significant newcomer to the Hobart contemporary art scene. Mike Parr's work has recently been exhibited in companion exhibitions at the Sydney Biennale and at Anna Schwartz Gallery, Sydney, with The Tilted Stage continuing Parr’s process of intervention with aged and often dilapidated spaces. Both the Bond Store and Detached will be open to the public around the clock for the entire performance of Cartesian Corpse, and then daily until Sunday 1 March 2009.
