All the big names in the Blues Business were here including: Jimi Hocking, Geoff Achison, Collard Greens and Gravy, Matt Dwyer and the Magnatones, Jeannie Lushese and the Bad Blues Boys, Louis King and the Liars Club, and The Holiday Adventure.
All musicians donated their performances on the day, and entry was charged. The staff at Y&J's also threw a Charity Auction to raise some more money, as well as donating sales of Beer on the day.
A whopping total of $4764.10 was raised on the day, as well as a collection of donations over the month raised an extra $5895.75, bringing the GRAND TOTAL RAISED FOR BUSHFIRE APPEAL $10,659.85
Well done and thankyou to all involved... It was a terrific day.

The Sunday Rock and Blues Session at Y&J's is almost ONE YEAR old now. In the last year, it's quickly become the city location for Blues. Australia's best musicians have played their little hearts out, and Australias biggest fans of music (punters) have sung and air-guitared their little hearts out.
Artists have featured Chris Wilson, Phil Para, Nick Barker, The Wagons, Josh Owen, Kerry Simpson, Collard Greens and Gravy, Jimi Hocking and a PLETHORA of other brilliant musicians.
The Rock n Blues Session is FREE and supports Australias Live Music. Exceptional Music, and exceptional beer = Exceptionally happy punters.
Come and witness these brilliant acts over a cold beer.

If you are looking for laughs and lots of them, you can't go past the city of Melbourne! The Melb International Comedy Festival is winning hearts all across CBD venues such as Melb Town Hall, Hi-Fi Bar (the official festival club), the Forum, Athenaeum, Victoria Hotel and many others... Just a very mini-review of the festival so far - watch the very funny international guest Arj Barker as he philosphizes about his single status (the delivery of the comparison of his brother's new-born baby and his daily creation of the toilet kind is side-splitting); get some insights on Charlie Pickering's country travels as he talks about ducks; be thoroughly entertained by Des Bishop as he takes you on his life journey from being an altar boy to a Christian non-believer (his intensity when he delivers his punchlines is mesmerisingly hilarious); be comically offended by Chopper (aka Heath Franklin)'s "deadshit" antics (the live beer gag - don't worry, I won't give away the exact logistics of it - has to be seen to be believed); discover the true meaning of some of the most popular Aussie slangs (according to an Irish man) when Jason Byrne finds a root in the wrong places; immerse into Jo Stanley's world of gossip mags as she sings, dances, teases, and gags about the trashy celebrity universe; and let Akmal & Joel Osborn delivers you to an arena of irreverence and indulge you in some ballistic backpacking adventures (Joel's Forrest-Gumpesque observations on life - "....life is like being a boat on a pond of shits..." - is acutely acurate yet painstakingly funny)...
And all of the above is only but the tip of the comedy iceberg - there's also Hughesy, Will Anderson, Jeff Green, the Tripods, the Umbilical Brothers and many many more... Laughter is the best medicine, so whatever your ills, take a dose of cackles at the Melb International Comedy Festival and I can guarantee an instant recovery! All Vodka connoisseurs in Melbourne know exactly where to go to satisfy their vodka addiction - a cosy Prahan venue named Borsch, Vodka & Tears is the place... Not only do you get the most varieties of Vodka to savour, one can get some of the best Russian-inspired food to go with the spirit. Aggie, one of the managers/owners have informed me that their Wednesday, Friday nights are also very big - so check out the venue and appreciate a unique dining/drinking experience at the Borsch! One half of the 90's hit R'n'B group Zhane, Renee Neufville, absolutely rocked the house at Groovalicious, Saturday night at Watermark Bar, Docklands last week. Performing all of Zhane's big hits such as "Hey Mr DJ" and "Groove Thang"; the packed crowd cheered, sweated, danced and jived to Renee's series of perfect performance. She then told the crowd of her new venture and a new solo single on the horizon - here's hoping it will be as good as some of the vintage Zhane soulful classics... By Antony Young

Held at the grandiose Ormond Hall, the event precinct of Belgian Beer Cafe Bluestone on a beautiful Friday night, this Youth Vibes charity event featured the sensational Garth Ploog performing some of the hottest traditional jazz standards and fusion new-wave jazz-pop favourites in front of a packed audience. This amazing Melbourne ex-Australian Idol talent crooned, jived, swang, and sang his heart out for the attendees in two 40-minutes-plus sets. Receiving standing ovation for both sets, Garth also showcased some of his own material to a thunderous applause... Whilst it is easy to draw comparisons to Michael Buble and Jamie Callum (Garth even sang one of his signature tunes), Garth has a unique presence that can only be described as, well, Garth Ploog! Go Garth, and Melbourne, check out his myspace/garthploog and go see him live in one of his own gigs before he hit the big time on the international stage! Words & Pics by Antony Young

Even though the weather is not as hot as previous weeks, there were still a healthy amount of gathering at this favourite waterhole for Sunday Session. The bar manager informed us that Belgian Beer Cafe consistently sells the most Stella Artois in the world! Maybe that's one of the reasons why this venue remains one of Melbourne's favourite place to spend Sundays... Words & Pics by Antony Young

Another one of Melbourne's favourite Sunday venues has to be BLVD Bar located at Freshwater Place...
