Body exhibition for families

Young visitors will be inspired by faces, expressions, gestures and an assortment of colourful characters through a variety of experiences designed to enhance their visit to the Gallery.

Families will be thrilled to discover this exhibition featuring a rich array of sculpture, painting, prints, drawings, jewellery and photography. From the intricately carved Japanese okimono figures to the monumental bronze reclining figure by Henry Moore, this collection will be sure to intrigue and fascinate. Children will enjoy discovering works that have not been on display for many years. Alongside this, the exhibition has a range of activities to engage younger visitors:

Become an artist!
Enjoy exploring portraiture by examining faces created by the artists in pencil, charcoal, ink and paint. Make your own pencil sketches in the designated drawing space with originals alongside for your inspiration. Display your masterpiece in the Body Children’s Gallery.

Along with the whole family, read the child-friendly labels to discover more about the artists’ lives, materials they used, techniques and some hidden secrets too.

Investigate!
Explore the artworks in Body selected from the contemporary, historical and Indigenous collections. Using the interactive Look and Talk for Families room sheet, learn to identify different art styles and develop an appreciation of the way artists create mood or atmosphere.
