I was at the original in Perth 40 years ago and perhaps my memories are a little rose coloured. Still, this version, with probably a third of the cast, made a pretty good fist of it. Pity that can't be said of the sound crew who turned the decibels up to extreme proportions, best heard with fingers in ears - I heard many comments to this effect on the way out of the Regal. The two male leads were excellent and the atmosphere from 1967 was well duplicated.Perhaps the Musical Director could have been stricter in his adhesion to the original song structure instead of letting some individuals run the singing show e.g. 'Aquarius'. If you’re after a good night out the Red Sea has it all from the packed dance floor to the secluded couches, multiple bars and the best djs. Only problem is the line, it can get really busy really fast so unless you are there before 11 you spend most of your night in the que. My advice is dress to impress and arrive before 10.30. …
