Many of the world’s cultures share a common heritage in the use of beads. Featuring a vast array of beading from throughout the Commonwealth, The Beaded Links showcases the religious, spiritual, cultural, political, environmental and economic life of numerous cultural communities.

The advanced creative work of artisans and craftspeople is a key attraction of The Beaded Links. There are many impressive examples of the making, stringing and presentation of beads, each flavoured with specific cultural references. From Rowe Dunedin’s elaborate Pearly King Costume from 1930’s London to traditional beadwork from South Africa, India, Mauritius and Nigeria. The beaded creations and the beads themselves also communicate a beautiful language that transcends cultural and geographical differences.

This collection showcases the diversity of beads throughout the Commonwealth countries and is curated by Jumoke Debayo.
