Australia’s darling of the flute, Jane Rutter, will transport her audience to Paris, and will share personal anecdotes and delicious French music and poetry from ‘La Belle Époque’ to the present day in An Australian in Paris Starring Jane Rutter at City Recital Hall Angel Place on Friday 22 June at 7.30pm.

An Australian in Paris is enthralling concert-theatre in which Jane reminisces about her student days in Paris (considered by many to be one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world), and tells the tales of many other artists, writers and musicians who have flocked to the ‘City of Light’ to develop and shape their ‘artistic personalities’.

“I went to Paris at the age of 18 to study the flute with Jean-Pierre Rampal and Alain Marion, two of the instruments great luminaries,” Jane Rutter said.
“In many ways it was the making of me.
“Since then I have been passionate about telling the story of Paris’ love affair with the human voice, born in the opera houses of the 19th century and the singing melodies of Chopin.

“It’s an elegant, passionate tradition that’s communicative, lyrical, and marvellously human: a narrative to the art of being expressive.”

With music by Debussy, Fauré, Jolivet, Poulenc, Elgar, Roussel, Marais, Ravel, Bolling, Cole Porter, Mancini, Piaf and Aznavour, An Australian in Paris is a virtuosic musical and poetic tour de force which has evoked standing ovations in Paris and Australia.

The performance includes the legacy of the Rampal School and the ‘tres amusant’ company of Picasso, Verlaine, Colette, Josephine Baker, Janet Flanner and Gertrude Stein, to name a few.

Jane Rutter is one of Australia’s most brilliant and versatile flautists. She has seven number one classical albums under her belt, is an ARIA nominee, and was awarded a Peoples’ Choice Award for her work on Channel Nine’s Getaway.
