Spirit of the Tent Embassy: 40 years on

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Tent Embassy, The Rocks Discovery Museum has invited four Aboriginal women to reflect on the significance of the Embassy in their own and their family’s lives for Talks on The Rocks in July.

July 6 - Pam Touma
Pam Touma is a Euahlayi woman from outback NSW who has worked in tourism and training for many years. Touma was instrumental in establishing a partnership with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service to conduct Aboriginal tour guide training courses for NSW Aboriginal communities.

July 13 - Kaleesha Morris
Kaleesha Morris is a Gumbaynggirr (Aboriginal) and Torres Strait Islander (Kulkagal) woman. A fourth-year Arts/Law student, Morris works on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social justice policy at the National Congress of Australia’s First Peoples.

July 20 - Larissa Berhendt
Professor Larissa Behrendt is a Eualeyai and Kamillaroi woman who decided to become a lawyer at age 11 when her Indigenous father found his mother’s removal certificate. A lawyer and author, she is currently the Director of Research at the Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning at UTS.

July 27 - Gabi Widders
Widders is an Anaiwan and Gumbangier woman currently acting as the Aboriginal Interpretation Officer at Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority. She works with a team of Aboriginal guides to deliver a schools program called The Rocks Dreaming, an interpretation of The Rocks from an Aboriginal perspective.
