In an extraordinary showcase of more than 30 works that transform our everyday experience of paper, PAPER NOW will open at Willoughby’s Incinerator Art Space on Saturday 28 January.

The Willoughby City Council curated exhibition will feature works by 11 Australian artists who are connected by a common approach of using paper as their primary medium. By employing concepts and techniques from a range of artistic and cultural traditions including cutting, folding, stitching, etching, tracing, drawing and painting, each artist highlights the sensuality and fragility of this extraordinarily versatile substance.

Featuring works by local artists Sally Aplin, Brigiat Maltese and Tianli Zu, as well as Sydney and Canberra artists Nerine Martini, Helen Mueller, Bronwyn Berman, Jenny Pollak, Liz Shreeve, Marguerite Derricourt and Maryan Mussared, each artist explores scale, repetition and the simplification of form to develop finely crafted and beautiful works.

PAPER NOW will be officially opened at 3pm, Saturday 28 January, by Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly and guest speaker Jeannette Siebols, Artist and Senior Lecturer at the Australian Catholic University.

The exhibition will run from Saturday 28 January to Sunday 4 March at the Incinerator Art Space, 2 Small Street, Willoughby. Opening hours are 11am - 5pm from Wednesday to Friday and 11am - 4pm, Saturday and Sunday.

Artist talks will be held from 2pm on Saturday 11 February and Saturday 3 March.
