Guava formed in early 2007 when Chris Stewart (Guitar, Voice), wanted to start something different and rang around to find some interested musicians. The selling vision was to fuse folk, world, rock, jazz and blues. Most players politely declined, but for Laura Corney (Sax), Tim Parsons (Drums) and Ellis Lum Mow (Bass), the idea tickled the right spot.The music is passionate and energetic, thoughtful and hopeful. Some songs sound strongly Latin or Spanish, where others incorporate African rhythms and feeling. More than anything, Guava is robust, full of life, and wanting to involve and move their audience - most aptly in the feet!It's about expression, about fun, history and future. The music marries the lyrics and words like 'indie', 'alternative', 'rock', 'blues' all come into the BIRDLIFE equation. A band with a unique sound and style, Birdlife are Ellie Plummer (Drums), Mike McCarthy (Guitar, Vocals) and Sarah Humphreys (Bass, backing vocals).The first single 'What of Past' has been chosen for Spunk Records "Singles Club" and will be pushed to radio and print media across Australia this November. This opportunity coupled with the band supporting Spunk artists Holly Throsby and The Tallest man on Earth is an early and exciting sign for Birdlife.
