The first track on Sam's new album is called "It Just Ain't Me",However, this album is very much Sam Hawksley.A strong mix of earthy, rootsy songs grounded by his celebrated guitar playing and distinctive voice.His 3rd album "Broken Hearts Like Records" amps it up a notch from his previous recordings "Anything You Want" and "On Any Other Day"Recorded with his long time musical allies, Matt Fell and Glenn Wilson, the album takes you back to classic days of the singer songwriter."We tried to capture the spirit of a band playing together, making the songs work and come alive, without relying on tons of overdubs. The way the Tom Petty & the heartbreakers or Neil Young & Crazy Horse would. Well that our fantasy anyway"." Drums, bass and electric guitar. A singer and a song .Old school - playing like a band. It's music not rocket science"The last couple of years have been very busy for Sam HawksleyIn 2005 he was picked by Keith Urban to support him on his "Be Here" Australian tour. He has also opened for Bic Runga, The Spencer Davis Group, Jimmy Barnes, Adam Brand, Catherine Britt, Richard Clapton, The Whitlams, and Damien LeithHis song "Come Back Baby" went to number 1 on the CMC video chartHe's also managed to find time to play guitar on recordings and tours for Wendy Mathews, Richard Clapton, Don Walker, the Whitlams, Christine Anu & make a new albumInspiration for the 11 new tracks Sam wrote or co wrote for this album came from various sources"A lot of experiences went into the subject matter of this album, not all of them were mine" I watched things going on with people around me. A lot of that ended up in songs like "Love Lost" and "Good Love Gone Bad". There's also a couple of exercises in escapism like "It Just Aint Me", where I decided I was going to leave Sydney for destination unknown and re direct my mail to John Howard. "Tear it all Down" was written after I woke up from a dream. The words just fell out onto the page in one hit"The album was written in some unusual spaces, an airport lounge in Cincinnati, a hotel room in Ohio, small writing rooms in Nashville, the subway in NYC, my house in Sydney. One song was written during a rare afternoon of vacuuming!This album is one happy hearts and broken hearts alike will enjoy.
