When Charles (Matthew Goode), an aspiring artist, meets aristocrat Sebastian (Ben Whishaw), his life changes. The two embark on an intense friendship that is eventually complicated by Sebastian's beautiful sister Julia (Hayley Atwell) and his overbearing mother, Lady Marchmain (Emma Thompson).
