Had dinner here at 6pm on a saturday night. It was terrific and the best food experience I've had in a while. We were attended to straight away and ordered a handful of dishes. To start off with we had the camembert tempura, ahhh what a mouth watering dish, completely melted inside the tempura so that when you bit into it, the cheese was like liquid magic in your mouth. Delicious!
We were on our last piece when our second entree arrived, the special which was dumplings, served with 3 sauces. 5 peices, I would have preferred 6, but we split the last one so we could try with all the sauces on offer. The dumpings were crisp and had a lovely fresh lime taste. Following that we given about 10 minutes to chat and relax before our first main arrived. We first had the Stir sliced 'Wagyu' beef with teriyaki & garlic original sauce served on a light green salad... the beef was soft and had a strong flavour without spoiling the natural flavours of the beef... this beef was so tender it literal melted in your mouth.
Following this quite promptly we had the Sliced Duck breast on a bed of Bok Choy and topped with julienne of leek. Wow this looked amazing... a real piece of art and also a mouth watering dish, went down well... all the portions were lovely, the mains were main size and good value. The table had a tower of sashimi and we were a little jealous, so we asked our waiter if it was possible for the chef to create a smaller serving of the sashimi, the chef was happy to do that and for $16 he created a small basket for two with about 5 pairs of sashimi pieces, all incredible fresh and tender. We followed all this up with their green tea icecream, with was on a bed of what I think was honey cornflakes which provided a wonderful texture. The green tea icecream was great and avoided that sometimes strange aftertaste of greentea...
The jazz duo started at 7:30 so we were at the end of our meal when we heard their first couple of songs, but it wasn't too loud and I had no problem maintaining a conversation at normal volume. They played a nice selection of jazz on cd while we had our meal.
Defintely going back, as someone who lived in Japan, this mixture of western and Japanese cuisine is outstanding... probably prefer to go back during the week however, as there is no BYO on weekends and the selections while nice, is marked up by at least $10 a bottle. We had a becketts flat rose which was $28 and retails for $17. …
