You should see her now

If you thought that she was beautiful
well you should see her now
and even though it kills you
spare a minute to feel proud

If you thought that she was strong and sure
well you should see her walk
her strings as taut as wire
mastered by a confidant

So it wasnt in your kisses or the compliments you threw,
it was the shitty god damn things you did from which this beauty grew

Now you suffer alone like a saint

If you thought that she was elegant
man you should see her poise
like sunshine through the paupers
as she sashes through the boys

If you thought that she was ever yours
dream in the afternoons
and wake up wrestling with yourself
dude, she's gone for good

So it wasnt your apology songs, thats never enough
it was your self important revelry that made her so tough

Now you suffer alone like a saint

If you thought that she was beautiful
yeah well you should see her now
and even though it kills you
spare a minute to feel proud

Valley Fiesta 2006 - T'n'T @ Brunswick Street Mall

T'n'T - Tim Rogers & Tex Perkins

I made it to a few of the shows at the Valley Fiesta this year, although the rain kept alot of people at bay during the day. The event I was hanging out for though (and it seemed ALOT of other people were as well) was the headlining act on the Saturday night: Tim Rogers & Tex Perkins.

I've been a big fan of both of these guys for some time now, and they certainly drew a crowd! We had a good spot near a tree in the middle about 15 metres from the front, but the throngs of people went all the way back to Gloria Jeans!

These guys have an awesome repertoire, they really play off each other with Tim saying things like he looks as good as Tex plays. They mostly played songs from their new albulm which I hadn't heard much at the time, but there were some standout haunting songs such as 'half of nothing' and 'you should see her now'. Plus their main song 'everybody hates you when your popular' was a crowd favourite. They also had some of their own tracks, such as Tex playing 'Fine Mess'.

I'm not sure if they were the best act to end the night with, as their accoustic set was a bit more mellow then tha previous acts who had psyched the crowd up. That said, I loved it, even though it took about 15 minutes just to get out of the mall after they finished because of all the people!

Saturday Afternoon Session @ Empire Hotel

There was a great recovery session at the Empire for all the people still kicking on (or waking up) from the night before.

I've never been to the Empire during the day before, it's a completely different experience with the doors open and the whole bar lit up by natural sunlight. The overcast drizzle gave the event a really good atmosphere though.

The Bang Gang Guys from Sydney were playing on a bunch of decks setup in middle bar, while we all drank free 'vodka on entry' and snuck some beers in on the balcony.

I wish they opened up the Empire like that every Saturday!

Work Lunch @ Bar Zuka

Reservation Not RequiredGood for after-work drinksGood for Business Lunches
Great with a large group

We thought we'd give Bar Zuka a good go for our Friday work lunch, as I'd been there before and was impressed at their cheap prices and different meals. Only problem this time was we couldn't eat in the outside area because they were setting up the stage for the Valley Fiesta! So we got a table inside where the dance floor usually is.

Only, the dance lights and music was still going! I felt I wanted to get up and dance still!

Last time I had gotten the Tandoori Chicken burger, a huge thing that was quite difficult to eat but tasted a treat. 4 of the other people were getting that as well, as was I, but at the last minute changed my order to the Butter Chicken. I had to be different.

Although I missed having a side of fries (thats fries, not chips, there IS a difference), the Butter Chicken was suprisingly spicey and tasty, although not as authentic as the curry's I've had from proper Indian restaurants. Still, for only $13 I couldn't complain too much, it filled me up and came with a big popodom as well.

If they could get a few more cheap lunch meals on the menu I recon it could become a regular lunch spot, but as it is the 'around $10' options are limited to a few burgers and pizzas.

Valley Fiesta VIP Party @ Bank Vault Lounge

At 6pm the Bank was the place to be for all the people who had been involved with the Valley Fiesta 2006. Surrounded by a good crowd of people who were fairly familuar with each other, the drinks flowed freely and the strange little hor dourves kept coming round.

There were some speeches and live music from Susie G, and some last minute hording of drinks before 8pm by the 247 crew and some of the people from the Family. As always, be sure to check out the Vault bar downstairs as THAT is where all the renovations really happened. A good start to a big weekend!

Official VIP Launch Party @ Bank Vault Lounge

Good for after-work drinksGreat with a large group

When you first walk into the new Bank venue (formerly Belushis), you might wonder to yourself exactly what has changed.

Oh sure, there's a new chandelier, a few curtains, and a glowing 'bank' logo, but that's about it. Same Belushis as usual. The REAL changes happen when you walk downstairs. Gone is the dark and dirty downstairs dungeon (4 D's!), and in it's place is a stylish, sleek, sexy and sophisticated (4 S's! ... I'm on a roll) cocktail lounge area, with multiple rooms decked out in red and black lether themed chairs and couches, dim roof lights and glowing neon from below.

The launch was alot of fun (free drinks and food, who can complain), although the all female dancers weren't quite as impressive as initially thought. It quickly became apparent that the place to be was downstairs chilling out in the many corners. Highly reccommended!

First Friday of the Month Club @ Bar Zuka

Good for after-work drinksGreat with a large groupGood place to meet people

One of the best kept secrets of the Valley (although not for much longer) is the Bar Zuka 'First Friday of the Month Club'.

First you should be aware that Bar Zuka itself is one of the newest cocktail bars to popup in the Valley recently. Situated just between the entrance to the new TCB Mall and Fat Rics, it's alot bigger than it initially appears to be. You walk in past the tables and chairs where you can sit down for a meal, towards the long bar on the left and the lounge area on the right, and then you hit the dedicated dance floor with the lights, plasma TVs, and a DJ booth built into the wall.

You'd never know it's all there if you didn't walk all the way in.

The First Friday of the Month Club is basically a collection of people who go to Bar Zuka on the First Friday of every Month for some free drinks until 6pm. It's been getting busier and busier each month now, and most people stick around after 6pm anyway because of the awesome cocktails, friendly service and great entertainment.

This is definately my new favourite hangout in the Valley.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Show @ Alhambra Lounge

I actually wasn't aware this was even on until I bumped into Wade as he was walking down Brunswick St, and I wasn't able to catch the whole thing but from what I did see it was worth it. Of course, going to Alhambra is always an experience, being one of the rare places that is both classy and yet relaxed at the same time.

The cocktails are fantastic, the staff are genuinely friendly, and there is even a smoking area out the back that isn't cramped or anti-social like so many others these days. The music borders between live bands with latin influences to chilled DJ sets with the occasional upbeat commercial mixes.

Thankfully I met up with some mates who had the corner booth that night, and right until the early hours of the morning a good time was had by all.

Shout out to Liz at the front door, still can't believe you came to my housewarming and I don't remember you!

High Expectations? @ Tibetan Kitchen

Reservation Not Required

Maybe I had set my expectations too high, but I had heard only good things about Tibetan Kitchen, and seeing as I live only just around the corner I found the time to drop in with my mate Matt and have a meal.

The venue itself has a small and personal feel to it, with unique decorations that make it stand out from the other asian / oriental restaurants. We arrived early and were the only ones there, however instead of a warm reception we picked up on an almost 'annoyed' vibe, which certainly didn't do them any favours.

Unsure what to order, I played it safe and got a special Tibetan Vindaloo, while my mate Matt had a Lamb stew looking concotion, and we got some Tibetan Bread to start with. The prices were fairly standard fare, and including a coke all up cost under $40.

The Tibetan Bread was almost Pizza like in quality, and tasted fantastic, I highly reccommend it, must more interesting then your typical garlic fare. The main means themselves were huge, definately filling and delicious, my friend Matt not able to eat all his and having to get what he left to take away. The meals also come with rice.

The staff however kept things from being too enjoyable, as they had forgotten about my coke and brought it out halfway through my main mean, pouring it out of a can into a glass as they walked towards our table ... as if they were in a rush, even though the restaurant was empty except for us! If this is a reflection of how it is when it's quiet, I'd hate to have been there when it was busy.

If they could improve their customer skills, just a bit, I would go back more often as the meals were like nothing else available and really enjoyable. As it is, I'm in no hurry.

Ekka Showtime at Family @ FAMILY

Nick Sentience (UK), Nik Fish (Syd) and Peewee Ferris (Syd) along with Family's Finest Baby Gee, Syke and tyDi.

Another top night (morning) at the family, not too packed and a great atmosphere helped along but some amazingly high energy beats. For a dirty smoker like myself I'm still constantly frustrated by having to grin and bear it (however, my friend did say that one of the cubicals in the girls toilets on the 3rd level had a broken light, and all the girls snuck in there for a smoke).

For all those on the dance floor until the end, how good was that Rolling Stones 'Paint it Black' mix for the last song!

Shout out to Shane downstairs, Bianca in the booth, and my partner in crime Sussannah!

Mint goodness @ Mint Indian Gourmet

Just a quick review of Mint, as I hardly ever go there after a rather negative initial experience when they first opened, even though they are literally in the same building where I live.

I decided to bite the bullet, as I felt like Indian for dinner but couldn't be bothered to travel all the way to West End for my regular Indian. I ordered take away Butter Chicken with some Garlic Naan Bread (it's boring I know, but back off I like it).

I was suprised to see the interior of the place has been given a bit of an upgrade since I had been there last, the lights weren't as harsh anymore and were a bit softer, and the tables had been moved around. We ordered our take away (my housemate Jess got some curry I can't remember) and they offered seats in the 'waiting area' if we wanted, as our meals would be ready in 20 minutes. The waiting area was made just for that, with comfortable couches, a nice touch.

20 minutes to the dot our meals were ready, and with the rice we had prepared at home earlier, we had a very enjoyable meal, my butter chicken was nice and soft, just spicey enough to satisfy, with naan bread that was just the way I like it (with a few burnt bits on the edge).

I'm definately looking forward to going back and eating in soon, my only complaint being the prices are a little bit steep, even for a restaurant as classy as Mint.

The first post

Welcome to the first edition of my online blog. I decided that considering how often I go out, it would make sense to track and collate all that I do right here.

A brief summary about myself, I live in the Valley, work in the Vally and go out in the Valley.

I'm a web designer who works 9 to 5 at www.brisbane247.com.au, outside of that I run my own web development business www.designbycode.com, which includes the popular sites www.brischat.com and www.australiangamer.com.

So I work alot, spent alot of time basking in the glow of my computer monitor, but don't write me off as a socially retarded geek just yet. As often as I'm working you'll find me out and about at the latest social events and opening galas, sipping martinis and import beers at swanky cocktail bars, sweating like a addict trying to quit on the dance floor at any number of local clubs, or showing my amazing pool skills at dingy valley clubs with my beer goggles perched firmly over my eyes.

I'm 25 which means I'm young enough to have fun and old enough to know how to.

Welcome to the party.

Welcome to myLife
